كشف الفرع الأمريكي من شركة  كيا رسمياً النقاب عن النسخة المحسنة «Facelift» من طراز الكروس أوفر المتوسط الحجم «سورينتو 2013» الذي سينطلق فعلياً في وقت لاحق من الربع الثاني من هذا العام مسجلاً العام الثالث للجيل الحالي. أبرز التغيرات التصميمية الخارجية شملت مقدمة مجددة بأغلب تفاصيلها، فلقد تم تغير تصميم الشبكة الأمامية، مع مصابيح ضباب جديدة تماماً ومصد أمامي محدث، أكثر انخفاضا ومزين ببعض الحليات المصنعة من الكروم. أما التغيرات الأخرى فتتلخص في اعتماد عجلات سبائكية قياس 17 بوصه، أو 18 بوصه لطراز EX، فضلاً عن مرايا جانبية أكبر حجماً مزودة بإشارات التفاف تعمل بتقنية LED، في حين بقيت الخلفية دون تغيرات تذكر. في المقصورة شملت التحديثات الجديدة مستوى أفضل من التجهيزات، مع باقة منتقاة من النظم الترفيهية والعملية والمتعلقة بعوامل السلامة والآمان، بجانب هذا تقول كيا أنها أرتقت بمستوى الخامات المستخدمة في مقصورة «سورينتو 2013» الجديدة لتكون أفضل ملمساً. التغيرات أسفل غطاء المحرك طفيفة للغاية، فلقد أبقت كيا على صف محركات «سورينتو 2013» كما هو حيث لازال يتكون من المحرك الأساسي رباعي الاسطوانات بسعة 2.4 لتر وبقوة 175 حصان، مع عزم يبلغ 229 نيوتن – متر، لكن مع تقنية حقن الوقود المباشر «GDI» والتي توفرها كيا كخيار إضافي، يمكن لهذا المحرك أن يخرج قوة حصانيه تصل إلى 191 حصان، وعزم دوران يصل إلى 245 نيوتن – متر، أما المحرك الأقوي فهو سداسي الاسطوانات بسعة 3.5 لتر قادر على توليد قوة حصانيه تبلغ 276 حصان، بالاضافة إلى قدرته على توليد عزم دوران يصل إلى 336 نيوتن – متر، وبقي ناقل الحركة السداسي النسب الأوتوماتيكي التحكم كما هو بجانب نظام الدفع الرباعي ذي الترس التفاضلي الوسطي القابل للانغلاق.

The CityCar is a concept car designed and developed by my research group at the MIT Media Lab. This two-passenger, folding electric vehicle is the world’s first “electronic” passenger car, featuring drive-by-wire control systems, robotic wheels that integrate driving/steering/braking/suspension, and a fully digital control system. The CityCar is designed to be integrated with one-way electric vehicle sharing systems developed at the Media Lab known as Mobility-on-Demand. As a researcher at the Media Lab, I was responsible for the battery and electronics architecture of the CityCar and its connection to charging infrastructure, including renewable energy sources within cities. In 2010, a Media Lab sponsor and technology incubator from the Basque Region of Spain, named Denokinn, approached our lab with interest in licensing the technology underlying the CityCar. The result was the Hiriko consortium, a commercial start-up focused on building a full-scale version of the vehicle and taking our lab concept to production. I spent 2010-2011 working intensively on this project, specifically the battery systems and high power distribution system for the vehicle. I spent the summer of 2011 working in Vitoria, Spain to test and validate the battery systems that were designed in conjunction with Li-ion battery manufacturers and a consortium of Spanish automotive suppliers. I was also central to developing the business negotiations and relationships between a number of battery suppliers and the Hiriko consortium, including technology evaluation and sales negotiations. In January 2012, the full-scale CityCar prototype was unveiled to the world at the European Union Commission Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Branded “Hiriko,” the vehicle incorporates all of the essential concepts of the MIT Media Lab CityCar: a folding chassis to occupy a small footprint when parked, drive-by-wire control, front entry and egress, the ability to spin on its axis, and “Robot Wheels” with integrated electric drive motor, steering motor, suspension, and braking.

Glowing Blue Waves Explained

Bioluminescent phytoplankton give the incoming surf an electric blue glow along a beach in Leucadia, California, in September 2011. Some dinoflagellates can produce toxins that are harmful to fish, humans, and other creatures. Scientists think bioluminescence may also be a form of defense for the life-forms. Much like a rattlesnake's tail, the light could act as "a signal that alerts a predator that it might be a bad idea to eat this prey," Hastings said. (Also see "Coral Algae Have 'Eyes,' Study Says.") According to another idea, called the "burglar alarm" theory, bioluminescent phytoplankton use their light to hopefully attract the attention of secondary predators, which might attack any creature trying to consume the marine microbes.

تكتسب شواطئ البحار سحراً يجعلها أحد أجمل ما يمكن أن نراه على كوكب الأرض، ويزداد هذا الجمال سحراً حين يضيء الشاطئ باللون الأزرق المتوهج , هل هو تعديل بواسطة الفوتوشوب؟ لا ليست كذلك بل هي صورة حقيقية لأحد الشواطئ في المالديف، فبمجرد حلول المساء تتلألأ رمال الشاطئ باللون الأزرق المدهش لتنافس النجوم ضياءً, والسبب هو عوالق نباتية ميكروسكوبية تسمى فايتوبلانكتون تنتشر قبالة الشاطئ وعلى رماله، ويعتقد العلماء أنها تتوهج بهذه الطريقة العجيبة لتخيف أعداءها، فلو كنت كائناً مفترساً لا أظن أني سآكل مخلوقاً يضيء  وهناك نظرية أخرى تقول أن الفايتوبلانكتون تستخدم هذه الإضاءة الذاتية لتجذب كائنات مفترسة أخرى لتحمي منطقة تواجدها. لا تحدث هذه الظاهرة في المالديف فقط بل تحدث كذلك في منطقة إفرجليدز التي تقع في جنوب فلوريدا بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية كما يتضح من هذه الصورة:

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, so the saying goes. But if, like this starling, they're feeling a bit peckish, it's not too hard to lure them close. These remarkable first-person photographs show how some greedy birds are not afraid to hover and jostle each other to get their claws on a few crumbs from a bread roll. Russian photographer Aroian Ashot, 39, from Moscow, who shoots under his professional name Alex A. Royal, took these images of British birds in Kensington Gardens, central London But capturing these moments took patience, concentration and a quick shutter finger, he says. Only when they are confident it is safe will the feathered creatures swoop low for a bite.  'The birds always are very careful from the beginning,' said Mr Ashot. 'I try not to make sharp movements, and not to look directly at their group. 'Then they gradually take courage and fly up-close and eventually start to eat their meal from my hands.' Mr Ashot came up with the idea to take these shots when he met bold seagulls attracted to his lunch while on holiday and decided to snap himself feeding them. 'I tried to feed seagulls in New York, and I found that they weren’t afraid of people,' he said. 'They would snatch food directly from my hands. 'So I repeated this in England with all the different birds I encountered there. 'I love to show beauty of the nature and animals and people like to see my pictures because they are full of fun.'

عصفور في اليد خير من عشرة على الشجرة، هكذا يقول المثل، لكن بالنسبة الى زرزور جائع فان الامر ليس سهلا لأن يكون قريبا وفي متناول يد الانسان! لاحظ مصوّر روسي يدعى اريون اشوت (39 عاما)، ان هذه الطيور لا تخاف ان تحوم حول الناس بل تدفع بعضها ببعض من أجل الحصول على فتات الخبز. وقام هذا المصور بتصوير هذه الصور وهو يطعم عصفور الزرزور فتات الخبز في لندن. حيث قال: "التقاط هذه الصور الرائعة يحتاج الى الصبر والسرعة والتركيز والخبرة العالية، وفقط عندما تشعر هذه الطيور بالثقة والامان فانها لن تتردد بقضم قطعة من الخبز". واضاف المصور: "انا احب ان ادخل الفرحة والبهجة الى قلوب الناس بصور طبيعية ورائعة، لذلك اسعى دائما الى التقاط صور من الطبيعة بدقة متناهية".

They came in their droves and queued outside Apple stores all over the world. From Tokyo to Sydney, London to New York, thousands waited for hours – sometimes days – to get their hands on the third incarnation of the iPad. Some who didn’t like the idea of sleeping on a cold pavement paid as much as £300 to jump the queue. Scroll down to see video of Apple fans , Black market gangs in London paid people to join the queue and buy the new tablets so they could then be sold on at a profit. The frenzy – reminiscent of the scenes which greeted the launch of its predecessor this time last year – is all the more surprising given that the latest iPad represents only an evolution of previous designs rather than a revolution. Its key selling point is a so-called ‘retina display’, with a high-definition touchscreen boasting 3.1million pixels – more than an HD television. The new model, which costs from £399 to £659 in the UK, also comes with an improved camera and a faster processor, making it attractive to those who use it to play games. Noah Green, a 16-year-old student from Stanmore, North-West London, had been fourth in the queue at Apple’s flagship store in Regent Street, London, but said someone had paid him £300 to move back.  Before going through the door, he said: ‘It is worth it. I am still 18th in the queue so I will be one of the first to buy an iPad. I am going to sell it though and earn some money.’  Many appeared to have been paid £10 or £20 to wait in line for hours on behalf of a third party. Some buyers had their hands full of shopping bags filled with products. One was even pictured wheeling items out on a trolley.At Westfield shopping centre, in Shepherd’s Bush, West London, a number of buyers were seen handing purchases – still in their shrink-wrapped boxes – to a waiting group of Eastern European men. What the reviews say Every reviewer has raved about the iPad's screen, packing a huge 3.1 million pixels. Tech site The Verge said: 'Yes, this display is outrageous. It's stunning. It's incredible. I'm not being hyperbolic or exaggerative when I say it is easily the most beautiful computer display I have ever looked at. Walt Mossberg, of AllThingsDigital, said: 'It has the most spectacular display I have ever seen in a mobile device.' Macworld said: 'You’re left with the same sort of typographic excellence you’d expect in a printed book. 'It has the most spectacular display I have ever seen in a mobile device.' Slashgear said: 'Steve Jobs would have approved of the new iPad. 'With its focus on the holistic experience rather than individual boasts around its constituent parts, it’s the epitome of the Post-PC world the Apple founder envisaged.' Tech Crunch said: 'Once you see and use the new iPad, there will be no going back.' One said: ‘We’re just buying and selling, we’re not doing anything illegal. We bought them and we sold them.’  At Covent Garden, men were seen handing over money, collecting receipts and organising scores of people queuing.One agent, who gave his name as Martin, said: ‘I hope to get around 70 iPads today. I will be sending them on to India.’ The new iPad will not be on sale officially in India for at least another week.Stores were given only a limited supply of the new device and many had sold out by mid-afternoon.  This allowed buyers who did manage to get one the opportunity to make a quick profit by selling them via eBay. Sellers on the auction website were offering the 16GB version, which connects to the web via wifi, for as much as £562.79 – a mark-up of £163.79, or 41 per cent, on the official price of £399.  The scenes were repeated around the world. In Paris, one customer, Athena May, said: ‘I don’t think it’s worth the price but I guess I’m a victim of society.’  Shares in Apple punched through the $600 barrier – a new record – briefly on Thursday pushing the value of the technology giant to $560billion (£354billion) and confirming it as the world’s most valuable company.

أعلنت آبل أنها باعت ما يصل إلى ثلاثة ملايين وحدة من جهاز الآيباد الجديد الذي أعلنت عنه في السابع من مارس، وهو ما قالت الشركة بأنه "أقوى إطلاق لجهاز آيباد حتى الآن". وقال "فيليب شيلر" نائب رئيس الشركة بأن المستخدمين أحبوا الميزات التي يقدمها الجهاز بما في ذلك شاشة "ريتينا" عالية الدقة. ويتوفر الآيباد الجديد حالياً- حسب ما نشرت البوابة العربية للأخبار التقنية- في كل من الولايات المتحدة وأستراليا وكندا وفرنسا وألمانيا وهونج كونج واليابان وسنغافورة وبريطانيا وبورتو ريكو. وأكدت الشركة بأنه سيتوفر في 24 دولة أخرى حول العالم بدءاً من الثالث والعشرين من مارس الجاري. ويحمل الجهاز الجديد معالجاً ثنائي النواة من نوع A5X مع وحدة معالجة رسومية رباعية النواة، وكاميرا بدقة 5 ميغابيكسل ويتوفر بنسختي "واي فاي" فقط و "فور جي" ويقدم 10 ساعات من عمر البطارية، ويتراوح سعره ما بين 499 إلى 829 دولار، وفقاً لنوع الاتصال والسعة التخزينية المتوفرة.
